1 Chronicles 22:29 (NIV)
Now devote
your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God. Begin to build
the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of
the covenant of the LORD and the sacred articles belonging to God
into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD."
I have devoted myself
to many things in life! I was devoted to snowboarding as a
teenager and would spend hours and hours of my life perfecting my
skills. It was the only thing that could get me out of bed
at 5am and the only reason I would spend 8 hours outdoors in -15oC.
I spent all my money on boards; clothes; magazines and anything
else related to snowboarding. It was a passion of mine!
So I have to ask
myself regularly as a Christian. Have I shown an even
greater devotion to my God than I have to my other passions in
life? Have I given my heart and soul to seeking the Lord?
Unfortunately its an easy question to answer most of the time.
I often find myself struggling to spend any significant time of my
day with God in a personal devotional time.
Time with God doesn't
just happen, you have to make it happen! It has to be time
you steal away from other things in life that may or may not be
good things. We have to continually ask ourselves what is my
priority today? Will I make time for God or spend my time on
my own selfish pursuits?
In our scripture this
week the Israelites told to "build the sanctuary of the LORD God"
The temple of God was his dwelling place and it was top priority.
In the New Testament age our bodies are the temple of the Holy
Spirit and we should continue to head the advice given in this
scripture and build the sanctuary of our lives into a beautiful
dwelling place for God!
Take a few moments to
read the scripture slowly and think about your devotion to God.
PRACTICAL
APPLICATION:
Set a reachable goal this
week in devotion to God. Decide to give him 15min 3 times
this week, or go bigger, commit to 15min a day! Make God a
priority!
Consider the state of
your sanctuary this week. Think about the habits and things
you do with your time; body; and mind that either build up or wear
down God's dwelling place, your heart!
