Don't Hide Guitars in Your Pants!
divider

I came across a true story on a news website I was exploring and had to share it with you!

Thief Tries To Hide Guitar In His Pants

The large guitar-shaped bulge in a man's pants tipped off a music store owner that there might be a crime in progress.

Clifton Lovell, owner of the guitar store in Texas was talking with a customer when he saw a man walking out of the store. "I saw him walking out to his pickup truck and the bulges in his leather jacket. I said, 'Hey what have you got there'", Lovell said.

He said 29 year-old Morgan Conatser replied, "Nothing".

Lovell pointed to the large guitar-shaped bulges in Conatser's jacket and pants and said, "You've got something".

Conatser then removed an electric guitar from his pants leg and underneath his jacket.

"The neck of the guitar was almost down to his knee and the back of the guitar was almost up to his neck. It wasn't hard to spot. There was no way he could sit down or get into the pickup", Lovell said.

With the guitar back in the store, Lovell wasn't going to to call the sheriff's office. But then he noticed a wireless sound system was missing, after which he called the police.

Conatser was arrested on a charge of theft.

"This is a new one on me and I couldn't believe he tried", Lovell said, still surprised.

Wow!  How smart do you have to be to think you can sneak a guitar out of a store IN YOUR PANTS!!! This guy was brilliant! (note the sarcasm)  Anyway as absurd as it is, it got me thinking.  How often do we try to hide sin from God when it's really like a "guitar in your pants"!  The truth is God can see everything and you can't hide sin from God.  You may be able to fool a few people and you may be able to fool a lot of people but the one who counts sees what goes on behind closed doors.
  • God sees what you watch on television!
  • God hears what you listen to on your MP3 player or mobile!
  • God knows what you are thinking about when you see a good looking guy or girl!
  • God knows if you are sincere when you pray!
  • God knows if you are worshipping Him or thinking about something else!
  • God knows what you do on the internet when no one is around!
  • God knows if you read the Bible!
  • God knows what you are like at school and if it is different than at youth group or church!

God knows, so why do we still try to sneak around?  The bible teaches plainly that God knows when we sin! Numbers 32:23 "But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. So it's no secret.  What we are really afraid of is man's punishment when we should be fearing God's.  Or maybe it's that we are more interested in man's approval than of God's either way it is a sad place to be.  HEB 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, [27] but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

But remember the message of Christ is not one of judgment but of forgiveness!  He asks us to repent of our sins!  AC 2:38 "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

Repenting is just a word that means to turn away from!  If you repent of your sins you turn away from them and live the opposite way!  Saying your sorry for something but not changing is not repentance!  In our news article the man confessed his crime because he was caught, not because he was genuinely sorry for his actions.  The proof was in his continued attempt to try to steal the wireless system.  The parallel is that if you ask Christ into your life and you confess your sin, you should be working at repentance!  You need to be changing the direction of your life!

1 John 1:[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  Not only does Jesus promise to forgive us but he promises to purify us and that means we can count on God's help to change!  You'll need support though!  We are here to help and so are your true Christian friends.  I'm going to be teaching more about supporting one other soon in our upcoming climb series lessons (or if you read this later it might be already on the climb series page)  Stay tuned, but in the mean time pray about those weaknesses and work on them hard!  Ask God to purify you! James 5:16 ...confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
