Have you ever heard the
line "You are what you eat"? Read this true news story:
Doctors in Western
Serbia Find Knife, Nails, Pen and Other Objects in Patient's
Stomach
BELGRADE, Serbia - A
team of surgeons in western Serbia earlier this week took out
eight nails, a knife, a pen, a screw, a spoon, a clothes-peg and
other, smaller objects, from a young man's stomach, one of the
doctors said Wednesday.
"We were astonished,"
said Dr. Maja Gulan, who helped perform the operation Monday in
Uzice, 70 miles southwest of Belgrade.
"We have seen people
swallow various things, but never this many," she added.
The identity of the
patient has not been revealed. The doctors said he had suffered
no major damage to his internal organs, and was successfully
recovering.
The case
was initially reported by a concerned relative who saw him
swallowing the objects, doctors said.
Food was always an interesting topic back in
Bible times and many times Paul talks about what you eat in the
Bible, but he's addressing a deeper issue. He's talking
about influence and what your life says about you. The
choices you make impact and influence those around you.
RO 14:13 Therefore let
us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your
mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's
way. [14] As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced
that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something
as unclean, then for him it is unclean. [15] If your brother is
distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in
love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ
died. [16] Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as
evil. [17] For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and
drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
[18] because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to
God and approved by men.
You know people have a lot of opinions about
what is right and what is wrong. I do. I have some
very strict standards that I live by and they are very important
to me. The truth of this scripture is that the choices you
make reflect the attitude in your heart and Paul says to act in
love! You are what you eat! If your choices in life
are selfish ones that cause others to stumble or God is urging you
to choose differently than you choose wrongly and sin, however
that choice is between you and God. Just remember the choice
is not about right and wrong products and food items, but about
right and wrong attitudes of the heart.
Send me your thoughts and ideas about this
subject as you dwell on this verse over the next couple of weeks.
