WHAT IS THE EPIC WINTER EVENT:
The EWE is a 25
hour youth event held annually open to any student age 11-18.
The event will run from 8am Friday until 9am Saturday. We will
be doing a variety of activities, including paintball, swimming
(if time allows), lots of eating, lots of fun games and
activities, listening to live bands, and just having a lot of
fun. It will be a 4 team competition throughout the event with
prizes and a new EWE trophy awarded to the winning team.
XSC TEAM REUNION:
The EWE is a 25
hour 4 team competition reuniting the XSC 2011 teams for one
final battle. Can the Green Team make it a clean sweep for the
year or will one of the other teams steal their thunder?
Support your team by dressing in your team colour. If you
aren’t on a team you will be placed on a team at the beginning
of the event. If you were invited by someone to this event you
will automatically be on their team.
RULES:
Absolutely no drugs, alcohol, foul language, smoking, or other
offensive behaviours will be allowed. These will be strictly
enforced. No one will be allowed outside after 11pm without
direct supervision.
CAN I BRING SOMEONE WHO’S NEVER BEEN TO SURGE
BEFORE:
Absolutely. We love having new people join in and this event is
perfect for that. Just make sure you invite them now and they
get their registration in if they want to do paintball.
DO I HAVE TO REGISTER IF I DON’T DO PAINTBALL?
Nope, just come to SURGE at the regular time of
7pm and join in the rest of the all night event. (or a bit
earlier if you want but text someone to make sure we are back)
WHAT IF I CAN’T STAY THE WHOLE TIME?
Some students
may not be able to participate in the full event but are welcome
to participate partially. However please remember that students
should always notify the youth leader when arriving and if
leaving the event at any time and should be picked up by an
adult unless arrangements have been made with the youth leader
by the parents.
WHAT WILL IT COST? ($10 suggested donation for food + paintball
costs)
Our goal is to
keep costs low, but due to the nature of paintball that portion
will have significant costs. However students can skip the
paintball option if necessary and join in from 7pm to 9am. No
one will be turned away but we are asking for a $10 donation for
food for anyone staying the night. Anyone just attending
regular SURGE time, Friday 7-10pm, does not need to pay
anything.
NOTE: One other possible cost is the spa pool at Lloyd Elsmore
if we get there which is $5 per person. The rest of the pools
are free.
HOW DO THE POINTS WORK: Throughout the event
there will be many chances to earn points for your team and the
team with the most points at the end of the event will win the
EWE CUP:
The point system is based on many things but primarily two
things get you the most points. Doing well in competitions and
challenges and most of all attendance points.
ATTENDANCE POINTS:
You will get attendance for your amount of participation in
everything except for paintball (due to the cost, however there
will be points for the paintball games and challenges.)
Attendance points begin from 7pm and start at 50pts per SURGE
member on your team present. Each hour you stay and participate
you earn an additional 20 points for your team. If you stay the
entire night and don’t leave beore clean up you will get a 100pt
bonus. Although sleeping is allowed points will not be given
when sleeping.
INVITE A FRIEND POINTS:
if you bring someone who has never been to SURGE before your
team gets a bonus of 500pts plus their attendance points. If
you bring someone who hasn’t attended SURGE recently (in the
past month) there will be a 100pt bonus.
PAINTBALLING AT DELTA FORCE!
We will be
heading to Woodhill Forrest for Paintball on Friday morning and
spending the day there. You must be ready to leave ECW by 8am
in order to get a ride and must have pre-registered with your
$30 minimum fee which is NON REFUNDABLE: This is a brand new
state of the art facility. Check them out online at
www.paintballing.co.nz Don’t be confused by other deals and
prices online. Refer to this guide for pricing options.
Paintballing is optional and if you don’t attend simply come to
SURGE at 7pm.
ANYONE UNDER THE
AGE OF 16 MUST FILL OUT A PARENTAL CONSENT FORM AVAILABLE ONLINE
AT WWW.SURGE.ORG.NZ AND AT 219 BURSWOOD DRIVE.
HOW MUCH IS PAINTBALL?
Each person must pay a minimum of $30 for their first 100
paintballs and entry. This is due 1 July because we must pay
this in advance to book our day. Late registrations will be
accepted until they run out of room or we reach 75 people.
NOTE: THE $30 PAINTBALL REGISTRATION IS NON REFUNDABLE. They
will not refund our money so don’t ask.
This includes
your full day pass and full protective equipment (body suit,
chest and neck protection, marker(gun), helmet and goggles) it
does not include shoes or gloves. (Entry is normally $40 and
100 paintballs $30).
However,
100 paintballs is not going to be enough if we
play all day.
Each person will be required to pay for the ammunition that they
use. Paintballs cost $300 for 2000 which is a cost of $15 per
100 if we sell 20 units. Otherwise they are $30 per 100 or $100
for 500 ($25 per 100). Because of this the registration form
will have an option for how many additional paintballs you wish
to purchase in units of 100. To make things simple we will say
the paintballs are $15 for every 100 you wish to purchase
however we must sell all 2000 to get this deal. If not the cost
goes up and until the registrations are in I cannot guarantee
the pricing.
I know it seems
complicated so here’s the bottom line:
THE BOTTOM LINE ON PAINTBALL COSTS IS THAT YOU NEED $30 TO GET
STARTED AND SHOULD BRING EXTRA MONEY TO PURCHASE AMMUNITION AND
YOU WILL NEED MORE AMMUNITION. YOU SHOULD PLAN TO SPEND AT
LEAST $60-$75 FOR THE DAY. NOT INCLUDING FOOD.
We will play
until everyone has used up their ammo or until the agreed upon
time to leave. You are not allowed to keep left over ammunition
and may not bring in ammunition from outside.
WILL THE PAINT RUIN MY SHOES?
I’m not certain so wear old shoes or boots that are comfortable
to run around in all day. The paint is supposed to wash out
easily from any fabric.
WILL I BE ABLE TO CLEAN UP AFTERWARD:
Yes bring stuff to shower off as we will go to
Lloyd Elsmore Pools afterward to swim for a bit and clean up.
WILL I BE ABLE TO SLEEP?
Although there
is no planned sleeping time during the EWE MELTDOWN there will
be designated areas where people can crash if necessary. I
can’t promise it will be very quiet though. But if you want to
bring a sleeping bag and pillow it’s up to you. There will be
absolutely no pranking allowed so you can sleep safe. (except
for the possible embarrassing photo)
